Who is Father Anderson?

Who is Father Anderson? Anderson Luis de Souza, is a Roman Catholic Priest, who belongs to the Religious Missionary Community of the Divine Word Missionaries (SVD - Societas Verbi Divini). He was born in Brazil, in Belo Horizonte, in the state of Minas Gerais. Anderson is the oldest son of Sebastião Olímpio de Souza e Benta Arcanjo Pereira de Souza; his siblings are: Emerson, Tatiane e Mario.

  When Fr. Anderson was 9 year old, he moved to Ponte Nova, with his family, on that town, he began in the CCD group, he was altar server, and he was a member of the Children’s Choir, teen's group and youth group. In the youth group, Anderson was more involved with the catechesis on his home parish Holy Trinity Catholic Church. In February of 1998 he entered in the Seminary of the Divine Word Missionary, as a postulant in Juiz de Fora, MG. In 1999 until 2001 he studied philosophy in Belo Horizonte, MG, at the Institute Saint Thomas of Aquinas/Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais. In the Year of 2002 he went to the novitiate year in Juquia, SP, on January 8th, 2003 Anderson professed his first vows as a Divine Word Missionary and went to Sao Paulo for the Theological Studies, in the Institute "Sao Paulo" of Highest Studies, in the year of 2005-2006, Anderson came to USA, to do his OTP/PFT ministry in the SVD Southern Province, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Livingston, TX. In the years of 2007-2008 Anderson did study two more years of study in theology in Sao Paulo, Brazil. On March 08th, 2008, Fr. Anderson professed his perpetual vows as a Divine Word Missionary, and was ordained a deacon by Most Rev. Archbishop Silvestre Luiz Scandian, svd. (Archbishop Emeritus of the Archdiocese of Vitoria, ES – Brazil). On May 01st, 2009, Fr. Anderson was ordained as a priest by Most Rev. Bishop Joaquim Giovanni Mol Guimaraes, auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Belo Horizonte, MG - Brazil.

Before Fr. Anderson came to USA, he as associate pastor, during 9 months, in Our Lady of Help Catholich Church, in Jacarei, SP. On May 23th, 2010, Fr. Anderson was assigned to be an Associate Pastor at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, in Lafayette, LA.

 

Curiosity: Most Rev. Joaquim, who ordained Fr. Anderson as a priest, is from the same home parish and of the same home town of him. When Bishop Joaquim was ordained priest in 1988, in Ponte Nova, MG, Fr. Anderson was an altar sever on that ordination, and 21 years later of Bishop's priestly ordination Fr. Anderson was ordained by him. Fr. Anderson was assigned to United States, by his superiors on January of 2008.
